The cornerstone of the Museum’s educational programming is its school tours. These docent-led tours have been carefully designed with the input of art and classroom teachers, to compliment the art curriculum for students to fulfill FCAT and Sunshine State Standard requirements. Each school is provided a teacher’s guide prior to the class visit to the Museum, which prepares the students to recognize art concepts related to the exhibitions they will visit. Each class is also provided a hands-on opportunity to create a rubbing utilizing bronze plaques depicting endangered birds and animals. Docent led tours for school groups are free of charge. The Museum has produced a learning kit with DVD based on the Permanent Collection with a study guide to enhance the Museum visit as well as provide a virtual visit experience to those who cannot visit. This has been distributed free of charge to more than 150 elementary public and private school art departments as well as home schooled groups.
